Madrid will hold the 24th edition of the Veranos de la Villa 2009 Festival with nearly 150 performances
The Spanish capital is ready to celebrate one of the most important cultural events on the social calendar, the festival of the Veranos de la Villa 2009. Madrid City Council has spent just over 2.8 million euros in the organization of the festival which will celebrate from June 25th to August 23rd in the Avenida Puerta del Angel, on the Casa de Campo trade fair grounds.

This new location, surrounded by greenery and with the best panoramic view of Madrid, will place this festival at the same level as other big cities that celebrate important events in their unique natural surroundings such as the Central Park in New York or Hyde Park in London.
The 24th edition of the festival of the Veranos de la Villa will offer a multidisciplinary and quality program with about 150 shows, divided between theatre, music, dance and circus. There will be 1,166 representations and 246 screenings of 120 films
This year the Veranos de la Villa has an excellent program. Great names of the national scene like Chano Domínguez, Juan Perro, Tequila, Diego “El Cigala” and Tomatito will perform. But if national figures are noteworthy, the international ones are great too: Nina Simone, Lou Reed, The Yellow Pony and Anastacia. The famous musical “West Side Story” will also be performed. The classic “Madrid Flamenco” will take place in the second half of August, with famous artists such as Sara Baras, Lolita, Valderrama, Carmen Linares and Farruco among others. The music director Daniel Barenboim will repeat with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra to interpret “Les Preludes” by Liszt, and the “Symphonie Fantastique” by Berilo. Finally, the theatre will be one of the highlights of the festival.
The new stage has a capacity for 2,500 people and parking for up to 225 vehicles. Up to five bus lines and some Metro stations are close to the trade fair grounds, and the EMT will enable a special buses line that will connect downtown with the Puerta Del Ángel Stage.
