Aliens live in Barcelona
Oct 27th, 2010 by apartmentblogger
Recently, we talked of the huge informal meetings held by UFO buffs on the 11th each month in a field close to the mountain monastery of Montserrat. In these meetings outdoors, which often peak around midnight, people observe the sky carefully with binoculars, telescopes or the naked eye, and above all swap stories about alien abductions, sightings and unexplained mysteries. Some nights, hopefully, light and silvery trails which enthusiasts do not hesitate to attribute to flying saucers appear, and other nights they may just make out the occasional shooting star or plane. In any case, the most prepared spectators bring warm clothes in winter and very cold drinks in summer. Aliens aren’t exactly known for showing up on time…
The origins of this strange Barcelona tradition go back to 1977, when a Catalan businessman named Jose Luis Grifols launched a solo ascent on foot to the mountain of Montserrat. After several hours of climbing in the dark, and when they stopped to rest awhile, he saw a series of strange flashes in the sky like long traces of bright meteors that seemed to descend upon the city. Grífols called these traces “energy fields plotters ” and was so convinced he had come into contact with a real UFO that he slowly began convincing friends and family to accompany him to the site every thirty days, on the 11th of the month, hoping to catch the trail of the aliens …
You’ve got it easy to find the place if you want to test your alien-sleuthing luck: you just have to go by car to Montserrat. Once you arrive at the Monastery parking, turn right and continue driving to Santa Cecilia. Halfway up you will see a plaza with a bunch of people gathered, just go up and ask if there has already been a sighting. Of course, before you go, rent apartments in Barcelona. Don’t worry; it is unlikely that a UFO will abduct you and its way better than sleeping on Mars!
