The Surrealism will make you dream

Beyond the real things, beyond the reason and beyond the logic, there are the dream, the unconscious and the imagination. To create a poem you just need to write some words in different papers, mix them and throw them over the table. The result, beyond any human control, will be surrealistic. To create a painting, you just need to reproduce some fantastic dreams and visions. This way, the painting, unusual and incomprehensible, will be surrealistic too. In 1924 emerged the Surrealism in Paris, breaking with all common sense and with thecreative automatism.

It requires much more effort than you may think achieving an art work in which the consciousness does not act. Our brain is the master of our thoughts constantly. Break out of its control is a hard exercise. Thus, André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miro, Magritte, Arp and many others conceived the creation and searched the human essence in the unconscious, beyond the real. The consequences of World War have many effects: the art flees from the atrocities and tried to refuge in the dreams. The dream world is considered the source of human knowledge.
These avant-garde artists were very interested on the desire to seem crazy. It all began with the poet André Breton, who was fascinated by the theories of the psychiatrist Sigmund Freud. His psychoanalysis method defended the idea that every arty work contains an unconscious dimension. Dalí also develops its own method, called the paranoia-criticism: it is a spontaneous technique of irrational knowledge.
The most extravagant of all is, of course, Salvador Dalí. He defined himself as a genius! His house-museum is located in Port Lligat, a small village in Catalonia close to the French border. There you can see many rare items, stuffed swan and a giant dead God make of recycled materials.
Dali never slept in the same bed with his wife and muse, Gala, because he suffered very strong personal and sexual complexes. He maintained a homosexual relationship with the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. His paintings were famous for their perverse themes. In fact, the eroticism and the sex were pervasive in the surrealistic creations.
In photography, Man Ray tried to represent the objects exposing them to the light on negative roles. The result is obviously new and difficult to identify, but deeply poetic.
If you want to know the surrealistic universe, come and spend some days in the Catalan capital. Visit the Dali Museum in Figueres and his home in Port Lligat. Rent economical and comfortable Apartments in Barcelona and discover why this was an inspiration source for artists such as Dali, Miro, Picasso.
