5 Bands at Sonar Festival 2010
Jun 4th, 2010 by apartmentblogger
We all know that Sonar, which this year will be held on 17, 18 and June 19, is one of the most important festivals in the world of electronic music. Sometimes it´s experimental or not as experimental, but it´s always good, interesting and futuristic. However, some of the artists are little known outside the field of musical criticism. Although they have not achieved the success of Lady Gaga, their music is definitely worth your attention.

Of course there are some renowned artists on the bill, and there are concerts programmed by such legends as the Chemical Brothers, Roxy Music, Sugar Hill Gang and Air. But in my opinion, the best part of a festival like this is the chance you have to listen to innovative special and little known proposals. Here we highlight 5 to watch for:
King Midas Sound: trip-hop never died, it evolved and became “Hyper-Dub.” This group merges dubstep and trip-hop.Its stellar production , poetic lyrics and the sweetly ethereal voice of singer Hitomi has made them an instant critic´s favorite. Did you like bands like Massive Attack and Portishead? Then don´t miss this concert!
Caribou: this musician formerly released his records under the name Manitoba, but had to stop using it because an old punk who had acted under a similar name threatened to sue( oh the irony!). Leaving aside the gossip to talk about what matters to us, the music, you can expect exciting melodies, precise percussion, and a high dose of musical ecstasy. It is electronic music with an analog heart
Booka Shade: This German electro-house have been working together almost 15 years and this year they release a new album. With roots in synth-pop and electro-house, they fill the night powerful but refined urban rhythms. Few know how to handle a night like they do.
Broadcast: Retro-futurism at its most mystical, the history of this group also goes back about 15 years and only now are they getting the recognition they deserve. They make music like the early days of Stereolab, with sweet vocals and enigmatic lyrics, but more dissonant and raw. Their catalog is also notable for its variety, since it is a group that has evolved greatly over the years.
Flying Lotus: is the stage name of Steven Ellison, son of “the Nintendo era” who grew up with strong jazz influence in his life (Alice Coltrane was his aunt). Noted for his ability to meld his avant-garde jazz experiments based with electronic music from a more formal study studio sound to performance in such a way that people get up and get dancing….
Remember that Sonar is more than just a festival is also an urban phenomenon and an incredible opportunity to experience the best of cosmopolitan Barcelona. Rent apartments in Barcelona to be in the center of everything!
