Sonar Festival 2010

The Sonar Festival in Barcelona marks an important date in the European cultural calendar because it is one of the most respected festivals of contemporary alternative and experimental music on the agenda. As the International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art it brings together new artists, trends, businesses and people in our electronic culture. This event will go into its 17th edition this year and will take place on the 17th, the 18th and 19th of June. Sonar has travelled to places outside of Spain before such as London, Tokyo, Frankfurt, New York, Buenos Aires, etc. but this year for the first time there will be two simultaneous editions, one in A Coruñna and one in Barcelona. This double edition event goes by the name of Sonar Galicia.

The programme is divided into Sonar by Day and Sonar by Night and features internationally know artists as well as newcomers. The range of the musical programme shows no bounds and you will see many artists from all different types of origins, backgrounds and genres. Some of the artists that will take the stage include the Chemical Brothers, Air, LCD Soundsystem, Booka Shade and many more.

But this year will also take us back to the birth of Hip Hop in Bronx, New York as the Sugar Hill Gang will perform. Most known for their 1979 track “Rapper’s Delight” (the 1st Hip Hop track ever to make it into the US Top 40) Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank and Master Gee are some of the true pioneers in Hip Hop who took it out of the underground scene on the streets and made it more popular among the general public. In 2009 their collaboration with Bob Sinclair on the “Lala Song” marked their comeback on the music scene.
