Recently I spoke of the importance the 2002 film Secretary with James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal has for the worldwide BDSM community. The film plays with the topic of power relations that are established in the office environment, and uses it to tell a really different love story. Playing with this morbid world of sex and relationship in the workplace, the cultural association of the El Nido del Escorpion Barcelona (http://www.nidodelescorpion.com) recently hosted a wild bosses and secretaries party in their basement locale. To ensure a proper atmosphere, organizers demanded a strict but simple and respectful dress code: office work clothes, jacket suits, ties … It further requested the audience to come with play on mind and have a good time: a film as funny and morbid as the Secretary calls for a cheerful and participatory mood.
The meeting included, of course, the screening of the film in the original version with subtitles, followed by an impressive performance by “bloody burlesque” artist LadyPain, who left with everyone’s mouths open with her show, which featured nails, typewriters, needles and fire. During the rest of the night, the basement became the ideal place for couples or groups who wished to practice their greatest sadomasochistic vices … Or have a drink, talk, and dance and spend a fun night in good company.
There is still no date for the next bosses and secretaries’ party in the Nest … But you can be absolutely certain that Secretary will be projected there sooner or later, so you can go rent apartments in Barcelona and introduce yourself with your boss or secretary!
