Robert Doisneau back in Paris
May 20th, 2010 by apartmentblogger

As Willy Ronis used to say “Photography is the view. You have it or you don’t have it.” French photographer Robert Doisneau had a perspective that converted his work into art. His passion for immortalizing “common gestures of common people in common situations”on a piece of paper got people interested in his work.
He is author of the famous picture “Le baiser de l’Hotel de Ville”(Kiss by the Hotel de Ville – see photo) which showed a couple kissing on the streets of Paris. Robert Doisneau began his career after working five years in the French Renault Factory, where his creativity began to falter. He dedicated his life to his passion for photography after he was fired from the factory for not following the rules about work hours. Irony and a fine sense of humour color his work, from 1932 when the daily publication L’Excelsior published his first photo, until 1993 when he took his last photgraph.
Robert Doisneau’s photos return to Paris at the Galerie Claude Bernard until the 1st of June, with a new exhibition presenting 50 photographs he took for the “Fortune” magazine in 1960 on a trip to Palm Springs, California.
Doisneau shows his perspective of a world where “everyone comes from far away, even the palm trees come by road from Mexico”, a place where all he could do was to take photographs to people playing golf. Through his photos he shares the shock he felt at seeing the “American women wrapped in their chinchillas in the heat of the desert” as Claude Bernard said in “Le Figaro”.
The exposition talks about the impact with a spoiled America and its southern rich people had on Doisneau and presents a new collection of photographs full of irony and sarcasm. Until the first of June, Claude Bernard Gallery in Paris features 50 of his photographs which depict Doisneau’s ironic view of the Americam dream.
for all those who wish to see this master´s work, rent Apartments in Paris and go to 7-9 Rue des Beaux Arts (where Claude Bernard Gallery can be found) to enjoy the world through the eyes of Robert Doisneau.
