Digital Art by Oleg Dou in Barcelona
May 11th, 2010 by apartmentblogger

Russian photographer Oleg Dou is 27 years old, and we’re fascinated by his dominion of digital art. His work is quite beautiful, and centres on digital retouching of the human face which results in images which are ethereal eerie melds of humans and androids, with the perfection of porcelain dolls.
Among his images we can find a series called “Toystory” which shows young children with white faces and penetrating glances (see photo). White is a frequent design reference for him, and he frequently uses the contrast between white and red, adorning his subjects with accessories like a clown’s nose or batman’s mask. Another admirable series is called “Tears.” It has different coloured faces, which are full of expression and emotion.
“Paper and Paints” is another outstanding series which features portraits in which the face of the subject appears to be covered in a fine layer of paper that appears to be one with the skin. Of all the fascinating variations, my favourite is the one which looks as if the face is made of newsprint.
Another collection worth mentioning is called “Nuns,” a disturbing yet beautiful collection of images which uses black white red and salmon as its central colours.
“Sketches” another of his series, also features children’s faces, uniting elements outside the photo plane with much balance, harmony and sensitivity. In “Naked Faces” we find an astonishing collection of avant-garde faces with futuristic touches and some more classic.
To round out the list we also have his collection “Freaks” in which we see different faces to transmit, as he said in the magazine zoom “I use the artificial nature of photography to reflect on the relationship between life and death, attractive and disturbing, beautiful and ugly.”
If you want to see the work of this incredible artist, don’t think twice. Rent apartments in Barcelona. Oleg Dou´s photos are on display at the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (CCCB) in Barcelona until 24/05/2010. The exhibit is called “Autopía. Arte y Cultura en el siglo XXI” and is composed of 168 paintings, installations, photography, sculpture and video. In this expo you can see work from 41 young artists including this young digital art genius. The direct address is calle de Montalegre 5. Telephone: 934 123 356. Enjoy!
