Visiting the Mystical Lizard King
May 18th, 2010 by apartmentblogger

Those who consider themselves connoisseurs of musical art certainly are familiar with “The Doors”, a legendary late 60s band that generated great controversy because of their staging and personal spectacles, especially those of lead singer Jim Morrison, known for his massive use of all kinds drugs of the era.
This unique and special band was surrounded by endless varieties of all types of art. Even its name was taken from a phrase by poet William Blake quoting … “If the doors of perception were cleansed reality would be seen as it is: Infinite”
Their presence on any stage was sublime, even as their performances grew more and more controversial because of Jim’s often reckless behaviour. A unique, passionate perception which caused him to more than once end up in the local police station after finishing a performance.
He earned a reputation for disturbing public order, and his concerts were banned in several U.S. cities.
Stimulating artist, poet, filmmaker, tormented soul, uncontrollable, his life ended at the young age of 27 years, even so he was a clear example of a person who lived every second following his heart
His grave is currently in the legendary Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris. I paid him a visit after a night worthy of the king, an endless night of wild partying at the bars near the cemetery that serves as his resting place. With a lethal hangover and a rock & roll uniform of dark glasses, vest, jeans and heels, I walked to the grave, where thousands of people pass by to pay tribute to the “Lizard King.” We feel a ceremonial respect for the lizard king, inspiration for generations of fans who still continue to delight in his music…
The last work of his we can enjoy is his epitaph, engraved on his tomb which cites “Kata ton eaytoy daimon” in ancient Greek, which roughly translates as “everyone to their own demons.” At the end of our days, each alone is responsible for solving their issues …
Why not release your demons and rent apartments in Paris. Get in touch with the mystical lizard king, perhaps after a visit he will tell you the way to the … “next whiskey bar”?
