Konrad Fischer Expo in Barcelona
Jun 14th, 2010 by apartmentblogger

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) hosts a historic retrospective on the work and activities of art dealer and painter Konrad Fischer.
Born April 11, 1939 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Fischer was a painter and gallery owner who revolutionized the art world. He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy where he was a student of Maestro Bruno Goller and Karl Otto Götz.
In the ‘60s he had several solo exhibitions in Germany and in Paris, and worked under the name Konrad Lueg, his mother’s maiden name. In 1963 along with two other artists Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter he curated “Living with Pop,” an alternative exhibition in a furniture store in Düsseldorf.
In 1967 he opened a gallery along with his wife Dorothee in Neubrückstrasse (Düsseldorf). Fischer called their gallery “Konrad Fischer’s Home.” (Bei Konrad Fischer). Their gallery would become a cornerstone of Düsseldorf culture, which experienced tremendous growth in part because of the work they did to gather German and international artists. The galleries goal was to showcase art from all corners of the world, and he had a knack for getting pieces together from fantastic artists.
In the 70s, Fischer expanded its business by opening a gallery in Zurich and Rome. In the 80´s he also joined forces with a gallery in Manhattan.
The exhibition at MACBA opens on May 15 and runs until October 12. The exhibition is entitled “With a Probability of being seen. Dorothee and Konrad Fischer. Archives of an Attitude” and is located on the second floor of the centre.
The exhibition begins with exhibits of his early work, from 1964 to 1969. There are pictures with a multitude of colours, some of them focused on the world of sport. One most striking pieces is a huge mural of fluorescent colours which has a flash that captures the viewer’s shadow and is reflected in the mural.
The second part of the exhibition is based on works of different artists such as Carl Andre, Bruce Nauman, Sol Lewitt, Gilbert and George, Richard Long. The exhibition finishes up with a work by Gregor Schneider “Room for a Day”.
As a further complement this exhibition, MACBA is offering a conference cycle so we may better understand the tremendous impact of this painter and gallery owner. Rent apartments in Barcelona and enjoy this magnificent event.
