International BDSM Day approaches…

There is an International Day dedicated to Women, an International Labour Day, a Gay Pride Day … So why not recognize the International Day of Sadomasochism? More or less this is what Kurt the owner of a private BDSM club in Barcelona called Rosas 5 asked a few years ago. After much brooding, he came up with a brilliant idea: to dedicate a day to BDSM.

He chose July 24th, making reference to 24 / 7, which in the little world of sadomasochism refers to a type of relationship between a Master and a submissive (or a Mistress and a submissive) that is not limited to the bedroom. 24/7 relationships are not just about bedroom games or the occasional sadomasochistic session with a beginning and an end, but rather maintaining the dominant and submissive roles constantly, “twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.”

Such relationships deserve a thoughtful discussion which we will take on in other articles, but for now it is interesting to mention that Kurt’s idea was readily accepted in many fetishist circles, and July 24 has been effectively becoming the annual day dedicated to the celebration of BDSM, especially in Hispanic countries.

Each year, “4th of July is celebrated in Barcelona with more enthusiasm, and it has become without doubt the most important holiday of the BDSM year. Rosas 5 is filled to the brim, and usually remains open for two or three days without interruption. There are shows and performances that offer domination, Oriental bondage and BDSM Poetry

… This year the festival is expected particularly interesting, because an actress from the group La Fura dels Baus will participate and perform a live show which combines music and bondage. You still have time to rent apartments in Barcelona and come to Rosas 5 for a unique experience…
