Summer in Barcelona is a machine of sweat and movement. And if a city is sweating then something is happening. And if you’re moving and sweating, Barcelona is one of the best travel options for its beautiful views, people from everywhere you can meet wherever you go, the clubs, the beach, the environment, the summer activities and specially the Grec Festival, an opportunity for you to meet with other lovers of the performing arts.

This 2011, is the thirty-fifth edition of the festival, thirty-five years offering the best of music, circus, dance and theater available. Thus, El Grec is one of the main summer attractions in Barcelona. The festival’s name comes from the main area where the first dates took place The Teatre Grec ofMontjuic, an outdoor theater built for the Universal Exhibition back in 1929. Significantly, the festival is an international a proposal to support local talent. Lots of different artists from Europe will be present, in addition to multiple spaces for Spanish artists.
This particular year, the festival devotes its “Panorama” section to important French artists, including Bartabas, Peter Brook and Patrice Chéreau. Perhaps three of the most important presentations, Ko Bartabas Murobushi with ”The centaur il’animal) from the 14th to the 17th of July. Brook will present “Une Flute Enchantee” in the Flower Market in Barcelona, an art piece based on Mozart’s opera. On the other hand, Chéreau presents “I am the wind” by the Norwegian artisy Jon Fosse. You can not miss the play ”Rules and customs in modern society” of the great Jean Luc Lagarce,s in the Picasso Museum from the 4th to the 6th of July. And of course, the classics theater piece “Waiting for Godot” by Beckett, also in the Flower Market from 15 to 18 July will be presented. For jazz lovers, the monologue “Jaz” is the best option, a work of Koffi Kwahulé held in the Atrium Room from the 24th to the 29th of July.
So with so many activities in Barcelona during the summer you certainly cannot get bored, the Grec Festival is presented as a cosmopolitan act full of energy, special events and excellent deluxe presentations.
