This year Japan will be the protagonist of the Grec Dance Festival in Barcelona
Two works of Japanese modern dance will be presented during July as part of the Grec Festival in Barcelona, giving us a chance to enjoy the subtlety, elegance and precision that we associate with Japanese art.
Japan is the protagonist and guest of honour during this year’s edition of one of the most important festivals of the Catalan capital, the Grec festival. As part of this homage to the land of the rising sun, two beautiful and interesting works by renowned Japanese choreographers will be performed.
One of them, “Mirror and Music” by dancer and choreographer Saburo Teshigawara will be presented for the first time in Europe during a performance by modern dance company KARAS, on July 17th and 18th.
The creative choreography of this work presents a reflexive game which will give us the mirrors that leads us to think of the tangible and intangible presence of music and reflection as a metaphor for life.
This montage for eight dancers includes a fascinating solo by Teshigawara where once again, this renowned choreographer shows his desire to explore the interaction between different artistic disciplines, leading to a marvellous encounter between music, dance and art.
In this piece Saburo Teshigawara plays with light and shadow, the presence of sounds that seem almost disturbing, colliding with soft music pieces in a game of opposites and antithetical elements of dramatic beauty. This disturbing piece lasts an hour and a half and will be performed in the main hall of the Catalan National Theatre on July 17th and 18th at 21:30 hours.
