Freikörperkultur, FKK

Freikörperkultur or short FKK is a movement that originated in Germany and can be translated as “Free Body Culture” and refers to nudism. For a while it seemed to be a movement associated with homosexuals, and nude beaches were filled with tons of naked boys. But over the years it has become more and more popular and inclusive. When temperatures rise in the summer months, more and more people take off their clothes to indulge in the nudist culture. I’m not sure if I have the guts to pull it off but I do see one big advantage: No annoying tan lines! And I can understand that being nude has a liberating effect.

If you are comfortable in your skin and have no problem taking your clothes off, get ready to take some notes because I’m about to let you in on some locations in Berlin where you can let it all hang out in your birthday suit!

If you are in the city it is hard to find places that are “strictly nude,” instead there are separated areas where people can be nude among fellow nudists without disapproving or curious glances from outsiders.

The Stadtbad Charlottenburg – Alte Halle has certain days in the week where it is open to nudists. On Tuesdays from 20h to 22, Fridays from 22 to 22.30 and Sundays from 20 to 22h be sure to leave your swimsuit at home.

One of Europe’s most popular inland lakes, the Wannsee has its own nude beach that stretches over 1km.

For people who are new to the nudist movement: Maybe you prefer to start off somewhere a little more relaxed until you feel more comfortable leaving you clothes at home. I recommend Artemis and FKK Sauna and Wellness Club (http://www.fkk-artemis.de/en/index.php).

To practice you can start of by renting apartments in Berlin where you will have plenty of privacy. When you are ready to be publicly nude, you can leave your clothes there.
