Gandules 2010
Jul 19th, 2010 by apartmentblogger
If you live in Barcelona, and you have the misfortune of having to stay in the city during August, you may find it beats the record for the sultriest, loneliest most boring month of the year. However, all is not lost. Maybe the best music festivals are in June and you’ve already seen that interesting exhibits that started in July, but there is a light that shines at the end of the tunnel, in the deserted August Barcelona: outdoor cinema as part of the Gandules cinema cycle.

Gandules explores themes, feelings, and mysteries without regard to language or genre. It has established itself as a platform for an open cinema, showcasing some of the most disparate films. Throughout the month of August, Gandules will investigate the feeling of doom, the journey into the unknown, characters and mazes aimlessly under the theme “Lost, Lost, Lost” three nights a week. Here are four of our favourite movies, which will be screened outdoors in the courtyard of the CCCB, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 10 pm. Even better, it’s free!
Wednesday, August 4: Alphaville Jean-Luc Godard, 1965. The protagonist Lemmy Caution embarks on a stellar journey through a cold and post-apocalyptic city.
Tuesday, August 10: The Exterminating Angel by Luis Buñuel, 1962. A bourgeois party turns into a nightmare, when suddenly and mysteriously everyone become trapped in the room in which they celebrated the event. A film as enigmatic and rare as life itself.
Wednesday, August 18: Lost Highway by David Lynch 1997. Mythical film which takes us on a mysterious journey, accompanied by Naomi Watts as she guides us through the worst nightmares and hallucinations of the horror thriller genre.
Wednesday, August 25: Sans Soleil by Chris Marker, 1983. A fascinating film that breaks with the narrative conventions of space and time. A documentary with a touch of science fiction made to reinvents the image “and makes your heart beat faster.”
If you want to loose yourself in the streets of this city, do not hesitate to rent apartments in Barcelona, and getting caught up in the mysterious and warm charm that surrounds the month of August.
