Espiadimonis at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona

On the 23rd of February the premiere of the theatre play ‘Espiadimonis’ will be premiered at the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia. The play is considered a drama but it could also be considered as an alternative creation. It’s difficult to catalogue given the wide spectrum of emotions that it transmits to the spectator. The author of the play is Ramón Gomis de Barberà. A doctor and a playwright, Barberà is one of the most important names in the cultural scene of the Catalan city of Reus. The person in charge of directing it is Iban Beltran. The young director, born in 1974, has plenty of experience despite his young age, and he’s one of the rising stars in the Catalan theatre scene.

The play ‘Espiadimonis’ will be represented from the 23rd of February until the 4th of March at the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia. The show tries to show us with its story the essence of the theory of the ‘espiadimonis’, dragonfly in Catalan. These flying insects have an imprecise and disorderly flight, just like we do in the course of our lives. We try and trace a perfect plan that’s always modified and we end up looking for unexpected alternative itineraries. In ‘Espiadimonis’ a young teacher investigates this theory of chaos and looks for help in an expert doctor, considered as one of the experts on the subject. The relationship between the two characters follows unexpected paths and they’re victims of their own theories. ‘Espiadimonis’ manages to make the crowd think. Possibly, on some occasion, we’ve been in similar situations to those that we see in the play.

The shows will take place at the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia. What used to be the home of the Cooperativa de la Lleialtat, since 1976 became the first venue of the Teatre Lliure. The venue is one of the most emblematic spaces in the history of Catalan theatre. In 2003, it closed for reforms but it’s opened again recently to start all over again. This is a unique chance to visit the new facilities and enjoy a great theatre play. The capacity of the venue is of 250 people and, thanks to new audiovisual technologies, the spectator will enjoy a very gratifying experience.
