Top 10 Most Dangerous Foods

Maybe right now you are on the verge of eating a hot dog, with mustard, ketchup and onions. So, before you sink your teeth into it, let me tell you something: A hot dog is considered the world’s most dangerous food because it poses a choking hazard to babies and children. At least, this is what the American Academy of Pediatrics thinks. About 17% of food-related asphyxiations in those younger than 10 are caused by hot dogs. The Academy even recommended that hot dogs should be redesigned to make it less likely that they will get lodged in the throats of young children. How do you redesign a hot dog?

Peanuts and tuna also in the list
The blowfish (fugu) comes in second place for the most dangerous foods. This fish is deadly by nature, its poison, tetrodotoxin, is 1,200 times more potent than cyanide..It is only edible when served in paper-thin slices prepared by expert chefs.
The bronze medal or the third place, is for the Ackee, a Jamaican fruit. If improperly eaten, it can lead to a coma or even death. Peanuts are also dangerous. Beneath its exterior lies one deadly little nut if you’re one of the roughly 1% of the population that has a peanut allergy. It’s the most common cause of food-allergy deaths. Leafy greens -like spinach or lettuce- are in fifth place of the most dangerous foods. The majority of contaminations were linked to salmonella which has its root in the production phase if the greens come into contact with animal manure, contaminated water or wild animals.
If you are not frightened enough by now, here last but not least is the spectacular finale for this disturbing list: tuna fish, due to its high mercury levels; tapioca, because if prepared incorrectly, the plant can produce cyanide; coffee, for the risk of increased heart rate, troubled sleep and discoloration of teeth; mushrooms (because of the highly poisonous varieties), and finally rhubarb that can cause poisoning in case of ingesting a large amount of the leaves.
The only thing that I can say after this hair-raising list is: stay away from these foods or be cautious if you eat them. But, please, don’t freak out, you know how alarming and often exaggerated these kinds of lists are. When you are in Madrid, play safe: eat a typical squid sandwich. You’ll like it for sure! Book Apartments in Madrid, the best choice for a cheap and comfortable accommodation and enjoy the local gastronomy without fear. There is nothing lethal about it.
