Dec 3rd, 2010 by apartmentblogger
No one doubts that using a bike is ideal for a good quality of life, health, maintaining muscle tone and environmental sustainability. Perhaps all these reasons explain why Barcelona has joined the Bicycle Film Festival.

This festival, which already involves 37 cities around the world, who have united around the bike and all the cultural and artistic production developed around it, The Barcelona edition will begin on December 9th and will culminate on Sunday the12th.
The history of the Bicycle Film Festival started in 2001, in New York City, when film director Brent Barbur was hit by a bus while riding his bicycle through the Big Apple. Barbur´s distressing accident was an experience shared by thousands of daily riders in the world and ultimately led him to create a festival featuring film, music and art to give visibility to those who have chosen to rely on a form of transportation which is non polluting and allows a privileged and aesthetic perspective from which to watch the world.
This initiative, which grew out of a traumatic personal experience, has grown like wildfire and today, ten years after its birth, there are thousands of people gathering in the world to promote the bicycle as a form of transport that improves quality of life.
Here, the translator would like to confess that learning to ride a bike at the age of 22 was indeed, one of the most important, fun and liberating things she ever learned. It’s never too late to begin enjoying bike transport.
Barcelona is known as one of the cities in Spain where the bicycle is used as key form of transport, which is why the first edition of the festival has a special meaning for the city.
In Barcelona you can find many places to rent and buy bicycles, agencies specializing in bike tours. There is also the Bicing service, provided by the city council, highly valued by many residents as a valid transportation alternative. Every year there are more parking spaces, bike paths and voices united to support biker’s rights. Getting around Barcelona is cheap, convenient, and best of all, fun! Visit the city to the rhythm of pedaling, and you will see a whole other Barcelona open up before your eyes…
The Bicycle Film Festival program will include concurrent events like Bicycle Polo competitions, visual arts exhibitions, informal races in different parts of the city, and at least 2 parties to help bike enthusiasts and artists in various disciplines celebrate this big first version of the Festival in Barcelona.
