Barceló before he was Barceló

The Caixa Forum Barcelona and the Santa Monica Arts present an exhibition that sheds light on the artist Miquel Barceló´s youth, exposing some of his most interesting and at the same time, unknown works.

Miquel Barceló has some true masterpieces under his belt and CaixaForum Barcelona and the Santa Monica Arts are presenting the exhibition “Barceló Barceló before” to illuminate all the artist’s career and not just the most important moments.
This exhibition, which will be shown from July until January 9 at the Caixa Forum, features many works made with live elements. The author was obsessed with the passage of time and that is why many organic elements were used to make his paintings. In this way, he observed, little by little, as these elements died.
This era of the artist’s life and not nearly so well known, and precisely for this reason they chose this name for the exhibit. Some of these paintings and works were exhibited only once, during a day in 1980 in Barcelona´s Metrònom Gallery. Since then, they never saw the light again. This is one of the reasons why “Barceló before Barceló” is so striking and interesting.
The works on display in the exhibition in CaixaForum cover the period from 1983 to 2009. In this way you can enjoy seeing how the artist’s work has evolved and track the changes over time.
But we must be clear that this is not a retrospective, because as Barceló himself declared, he not yet finished painting. If you want to enjoy the work of one of the most important living painters in the world you can rent apartments in Barcelona and get to know its fresh spirit.
